Discover Downham is a community museum housed in the old fire station on Priory Road in the Norfolk market town of Downham Market, known locally as the Gingerbread Town. Opened in 2016, it tells the story of the town and the surrounding Clackclose Hundred through interactive displays, old photographs, documents and local artefacts. Visitors can look around the exhibits, chat with the volunteers who run the museum, and see the original fire engine bay in the building. A children's area lets younger visitors guess what everyday objects were used for before electricity arrived, which suits families with primary-age children on a wet afternoon. There is a small shop, a café area serving refreshments, and a research room for anyone tracing family history. The centre is a good stop for a relaxed, low-key visit that combines local history with a short walk around the town.
