Wymondham Heritage Museum occupies The Bridewell, a Georgian former prison and later courthouse and police station in the market town of Wymondham. The collection covers the history of the town and the people around it, with rotating displays on subjects such as wartime life, a local cinema, lost pubs and the town's brushmaking industry. Families can step down into a recreated dungeon in the basement to get a sense of what conditions were like for prisoners two centuries ago, and the rooms that once held inmates, a courthouse and a police station give the visit a distinctive atmosphere. The museum suits older children with an interest in history and is a manageable, indoor visit for a rainy afternoon. Its displays change through the year, so there is usually something new to see on a return trip.
