The Dad's Army Museum sits in the old fire station behind Thetford Guildhall, a building that stood in for the town hall in the BBC sitcom's Walmington-on-Sea scenes. Inside, visitors find a reconstruction of Captain Mainwaring's church hall office, display areas of photographs and memorabilia from the series, and a shop. A tea room serves cakes and refreshments. Families with children who know the programme, or who simply enjoy a light heritage visit, can spend an hour or so here without needing to be superfans. Outside, the town's filming locations can be explored on a self-guided audio tour or a guided walking tour, and a bronze statue of Captain Mainwaring stands in the town. Dogs are welcome in the museum, though not in the tea room. The museum is run by volunteers, so opening days vary through the year.
