Harleston Museum is a compact local history museum run by the Harleston and District Historical Society and staffed by volunteers. Its changing displays cover the life and times of Harleston and the surrounding parishes, from prehistoric times to the present day. A permanent section explores the town's link with the Mayflower and the Pilgrim Fathers, and a recent display features a detailed scale model of a medieval hall house. Items on show illustrate domestic life, working life, costume, recreation and the built environment of the town. The museum suits families with older children who enjoy history and local stories, and it pairs well with a walk around the historic town centre and its timber-framed buildings. The museum is small, so a visit is quick and easy to fit into a morning out.
