Diss Museum is a community museum housed in the former butchers' shops of the Shambles in the heart of Diss market place. Its displays trace the long history of the market town and the surrounding South Norfolk area, drawing on a large collection of objects, with changing exhibitions alongside the permanent galleries. Families can find local stories, old everyday objects and a doll's house display to look at together, and the museum also runs history talks, walks and ghost tours that suit older children. Admission is free, so it works well as a short stop during a town visit, especially on a market day or after a stroll around the lakeside Mere nearby. The building is small, so it is a relaxed visit rather than a long day out.
