Ribchester Roman Museum

A small museum in the village of Ribchester that tells the story of the Roman cavalry fort and settlement of Bremetenacum, along with prehistoric finds from the area. Its displays draw on archaeological objects recovered from the site, including coins, sculpture and metalwork, and explain everyday Roman life in this part of Britain. The museum is a registered charity and is a heavily used resource for school groups, and it runs children's activities through the year. Outside, remains of the fort granaries stand behind the parish church and the bath house is a short walk away, so a visit can extend into the village. An annual weekend Roman festival takes place on the village playing fields, and the museum also holds metal detecting experience days and temporary exhibitions.
