Rufford Old Hall is a timber-framed Tudor manor house run by the National Trust, set in gardens and woodland beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Inside, children can explore the Great Hall with its hammerbeam roof and carved screen, the arms and armour displays, and rooms furnished with Lancashire oak and Hesketh family objects. The National Trust describes it as good for families: visitors can borrow a balance bike, play in a dedicated nature play area, and dress up in the house. Outside there is squirrel-shaped topiary, beehives, an orchard with picnic spots, and a relaxed woodland path. A Victorian tea-room and courtyard seating make it easy to stop for a snack. Access inside the house is limited for wheelchair users, so the garden and ground floor are the easiest parts of the visit for pushchairs and mobility aids.

Christmas and Scarecrow Festival family events run in autumn and winter. Check the NT events page.
