Towneley Hall is a historic house set in a large public park on the edge of Burnley, and it suits families who want a mix of old rooms, art, local history and fresh air. Inside the Hall, children can follow a mouse trail through the period rooms, look at Victorian paintings and natural history displays, and see Egyptian objects. Behind the main building, the Museum of Local Crafts and Industries occupies a former brew house and shows objects from Burnley's traditional trades, including clog making, ironmongery and weaving. The surrounding parkland has woodland walks, formal gardens, a children's play area and a sculpture trail. The venue runs family events, craft workshops and school learning sessions, and there is a café and a shop on site.
