Fleetwood Museum occupies an old Customs House overlooking the River Wyre and tells the story of the town from its planned Victorian beginnings through its busy port and fishing industry to its years as a seaside resort. Visitors can see a restored fishing boat from 1893 and a traditional prawn-fishing vessel, along with displays on the lifeboat service, the Fisherman's Friends lozenge that started in Fleetwood, and the town's tram links with Blackpool. Families tend to enjoy the hands-on craft activities and the stories about shipwrecks and rescues. A rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, talks and family-friendly events runs through the season, and school groups are well catered for with sessions that can be booked all year. The museum is compact, so it suits an hour or two as part of a day on the Fylde coast. Some parts of the historic building are harder to reach, so it helps to check access before visiting.
