A small Roman bath suite, part of the Dicket Mead villa, preserved under the motorway embankment at Welwyn. Visitors walk down a tunnel lined with original Roman tiles into a climate-controlled steel vault, where a raised walkway looks over the cold, warm and hot rooms and the hot plunge bath. Displays explain how the site was discovered in 1960 and excavated by local archaeologists, and there are finds from the Welwyn area. The site runs hands-on family activities and suits children interested in history and archaeology, with a short visit that works well alongside a day in the wider area. It is open on Saturdays for a limited season, so families should check dates before travelling.
