Stevenage Museum is a small, family-friendly community museum that traces the history of the town from prehistoric times to the present day. Displays draw on archaeological finds, a large collection of photographs and objects covering local industry, farming and crafts, and a new town archive of maps, plans and oral histories. Exhibitions change through the year, and the museum runs holiday activities, under-5s sessions, lunchtime talks and school workshops. Everything is on one level and the entrance is ramped, which suits pushchairs and visitors with limited mobility. General admission is free, so it works well as a low-cost rainy-day visit with children, combined with a walk around the town centre.
