Baldock Museum is run by the volunteers of Baldock Museum & Local History Society and sits within the Baldock Arts and Heritage Centre in the old Fire Station and Town Hall buildings. It charts the changing fortunes of the market town, from its origins on an earlier Iron Age and Roman settlement through to its founding by the Knights Templar. A general display on the town's history is supplemented by changing displays on particular aspects of Baldock's past, including its malting and brewing industries and the Kayser Bondor works. Families with older children interested in local history, old photographs and objects from the town will find it worth a visit. It is a compact, quiet museum rather than a hands-on attraction, so it suits a short visit combined with a wander around the town centre. Check ahead before travelling, as the museum has been closed for refurbishment.
Closed mid-December to early March per society notice; refurbishment closure undated.
