Lowewood Museum occupies a Georgian house just south of Hoddesdon town centre and serves as the museum for the Borough of Broxbourne. Its collections cover geology, archaeology, social history, costume, photography and art, and include a well-known Bengal tiger display, paintings by the Cheshunt-based artist James Ward, and the story of the Victorian landscape firm James Pulham & Son. Families visiting in school holidays can join hands-on events, and the museum hosts seasonal activities such as a Father Christmas visit and model railway days. The galleries are spread over two floors, with the ground floor reachable step-free, and there is a café and a garden where picnics are welcome. The museum is small and relaxed, which suits a short family visit, and it is run by a charitable trust with volunteers who are keen to welcome visitors of all ages.
Family event days can take over the café space, so hot drinks may not be served on those days. Seasonal events are listed on the What's On page.
