St Albans Organ Theatre is a small museum of self-playing mechanical instruments on Camp Road, run by the St Albans Musical Museum Society as a registered charity. The collection includes dance organs, player pianos, music boxes and theatre pipe organs, many of them dating from the early and mid twentieth century. Visits are built around a live musical demonstration with a spoken commentary, which lets children see and hear instruments that play without anyone touching them. The venue also hosts theatre organ concerts and seasonal events, such as a Christmas afternoon of mechanical music. Opening is limited to a few set afternoons a month, so families should check the current programme before travelling. Organised groups can arrange visits at other times. The intimate space suits families with children who enjoy music, machinery and history, and it sits within walking distance of St Albans city centre.
