North Hertfordshire Museum sits beside the Town Hall in the centre of Hitchin and brings together the collections from the former Letchworth and Hitchin museums. Its galleries cover the district from the geological past through to modern planning, so younger visitors can see prehistoric material, Roman artefacts, a Victorian pharmacy counter and a large football collection. Temporary exhibitions rotate through a dedicated gallery and a smaller space. The museum runs events and workshops throughout the year, including sessions for toddlers and school groups, and there is a café and gift shop on site. Entry is free, the building is step-free throughout with lifts to every floor, and a short visit suits a rainy afternoon or a family looking for something low-key to do in town.
