Set in a Grade II* listed farmhouse and blacksmith's forge in the centre of the village, this small local museum gives families a look at village life across several centuries. The highlight for many visitors is the Elizabethan wall paintings in one of the cottage rooms, which are of national importance. The original forge is still there, with displays on the craft, folklore and daily work of the village blacksmith. Local archaeology and social history galleries cover both Much and Little Hadham, and there is an archive room with panelled walls to browse. Children are offered House Detective bags to work through as they explore. A bright extension hosts temporary art exhibitions, craft activities and a small tea room and shop. Schools and pre-school groups can book guided trails and workshops. The visit usually takes between 45 and 90 minutes, which suits a relaxed afternoon with younger children.
