Westonbury Mill Water Gardens is a privately owned garden built around a former corn mill and a network of streams and ponds. Families can wander the paths past water lilies, bog gardens and small bridges, climb a spiral mound for views over the surrounding countryside, and look out for the garden's follies, which include a stone water tower, a dome built from glass bottles and a large water-powered cuckoo clock. Younger children will want close supervision because the water is a real hazard, and the paths are unmade in places, so sturdy shoes suit best. Dogs on leads are welcome. A café and plant nursery sit alongside the garden, and benches are set around the grounds for resting. It is a seasonal day out, open through the spring and summer months.

Seasonal garden, April to September only.

Questions parents ask

Is there a café, or should we bring a picnic?
There is a café on site, so you can buy food and drink during your visit. The page does not mention a dedicated picnic area, so it is worth checking directly if you prefer to bring your own.
Can I take a buggy round the gardens?
We have not confirmed whether buggies are manageable on the paths here. Given that the gardens include Japanese Tea House walks and bog areas, it would be worth contacting the venue before your visit to check access for pushchairs.
Does it work in wet weather, or should we cancel if rain is forecast?
This is an outdoor gardens site with water features, so muddy or slippery conditions are possible after heavy rain. Since the page mentions ongoing winter weather challenges affecting garden work, a very wet forecast might affect your experience, but the gardens do operate in normal rain.
How long should we plan to spend there?
The page does not state a typical visit length. As the gardens include follies, a cuckoo clock, a Japanese Tea House, and multiple themed areas including a bog garden, plan for at least a couple of hours depending on how thoroughly you explore.
Do we need to book in advance, or can we turn up on the day?
The page does not mention advance booking. For confirmation of walk-up access, especially during peak times, contact the gardens directly by phone or email.
What should we know before we visit?
The cuckoo clock is unattended every Friday and may not work on that day, so avoid Fridays if seeing the clock is important to your visit. The gardens close from October 1st and do not reopen until April 1st, 2027.
