A small, independently run museum housed in the garden of a country house called Cartref, in the village of Wormelow. It is dedicated to Violette Szabo, a Second World War special operations agent who spent childhood holidays in the area, and it also tells the wider story of the resistance workers who risked their lives in occupied France. Exhibits include photographs charting her life from childhood through to her marriage, and displays on her wartime missions and her time in captivity. The rooms are compact and fairly full of memorabilia, so the visit suits older children with an interest in history, the Second World War or true stories of bravery rather than younger children looking for hands-on play. Visits are typically guided and relaxed. Families who enjoy walking can also link the museum to a six-mile countryside trail that finishes at its door.
Wednesday afternoons only, April to October; by appointment otherwise.
