The River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum is housed in Kelso Town Hall and tells the story of catching Atlantic salmon with rod and line, from techniques developed on the Tweed in the mid 1700s to the sport's spread around the world. The growing collection includes historic rods and reels, flies, clothing, tools, photographs and maps of the river, and there are audiovisual displays and a large model salmon. Some displays cover the river's geology, wildlife and conservation, which gives younger visitors a way into the natural history behind the fishing. The museum also runs seasonal exhibitions, fly-tying demonstrations and school workshops aimed at visitors of all ages. It suits a family looking for an indoor visit in the Borders, and entry is free.
