Abbotsford is the magnificent home of 19th-century novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott. Set on the banks of the River Tweed near Melrose in the Scottish Borders, this extraordinary Scots Baronial house is filled with Scott's remarkable collections of historic artefacts, books, and works of art. Beyond the house, visitors can explore beautiful formal Regency walled gardens, woodland and riverside walks across the estate, the free Visitor Centre with café and gift shop, and the Witch Corner supernatural sculpture trail — a family favourite with interactive story stops inspired by Scottish folklore and legend. Family-friendly activities include downloadable activity sheets, the 'Where's Wattie' trail, seasonal Family Fridays events, and the Bookbug storytelling sessions. Dogs are welcome on leads across the grounds, gardens and café.
