The Somme Museum, formerly the Somme Heritage Centre, is run by the Somme Association and sits just off the A21 between Newtownards and Bangor in County Down. Its exhibitions cover Ireland's contribution to the First World War, with particular attention to the 36th (Ulster), 16th (Irish) and 10th (Irish) Divisions, and the museum has since widened its collection to include the Second World War and later conflicts. The highlight for many families is the guided tour through reconstructed trenches, which explains what daily life was like for soldiers in 1916. Temporary exhibitions and a hands-on schools programme add more to see. Because the subject is serious and the content is grown-up, it suits older children and teenagers, and school groups, more than very young ones. Visits are led by guides, so tours run on the hour and the museum is best planned around its published public opening days.

Opens to the public on set days in September and October 2026; outside those dates visits are by group or school booking.
