Access & inclusion

  • Step-free access

Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

York Mansion House is the official home of the Lord Mayor of York, built in 1732 and open to visitors as a historic house. Families can wander through the State Room, the dining room and the original 18th-century kitchen, where cooking demonstrations take place during the day. The house holds a large civic silver collection, period furniture and portraits of past Lord Mayors, and the staff run seasonal trails that children enjoy following through the rooms. Throughout the year there are themed events, from story times to spooky evening trails around Halloween. Lift access reaches the whole building, so the visit suits grandparents and buggies as well as older children. It is a good rainy-afternoon option in the city centre, close to the shops and cafes around St Helen's Square.
