White Scar Cave sits on the lower western slopes of Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and its owners describe it as the longest show cave in Britain. Every visit is with a guide, and the one-mile tour takes around 80 minutes along lit paths. Along the way there are underground streams and waterfalls, banks of flowstone, prehistoric mud pools and a large ice-age chamber hung with thousands of stalactites. Children can spot named rock formations on the walk. The cave stays cool all year round, so families are advised to bring a jumper or jacket. Tours run weather permitting, and the cave has been open to visitors since the 1920s.
