Carlton Towers is a stately home set in its own estate, the family seat of Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard. Visitors can join guided tours through the state rooms, picture gallery, armoury and the famous priest's hiding hole, then relax with a cream tea. Some days are run as open house weekends, when visitors can wander the house at their own pace, and there are seasonal family events such as Santa lunches, classic car shows and ghost story evenings. The walled garden vineyard and the estate grounds add outdoor space for a stroll. Much of the venue is used for weddings and private hire, so check the event calendar before planning a visit, as some tours and events are for older children and adults only.
