Ryedale Folk Museum is a six-acre open-air museum set in the village of Hutton-le-Hole inside the North York Moors National Park. Around twenty historic buildings have been rescued from nearby villages and rebuilt on the site, so a visit moves through time from a reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse to a medieval crofter's cottage, a thatched manor house, a Victorian cottage and a 1950s village shop. Working rooms where a smith, shoemaker, wheelwright and carpenter once plied their trades sit among the buildings, and old-fashioned pharmacy and shop displays add plenty to look at for children. The grounds are open and suit a relaxed walk with space to run about between buildings. Some paths are uneven and a few buildings have steps, so families with buggies or limited mobility should plan ahead. Dogs on leads are welcome across the site. There is no café on site, so pack a picnic or walk to the village pubs and tearooms.
Open 9 March to 29 November 2026 only, per the 2026 calendar on the venue's site. Closed over winter.
