Whitby Museum is a Victorian museum in Pannett Park, covering the history of this North Yorkshire coastal town. Its collections run from Jurassic fossils and large marine reptile remains to model ships, carved jet, costumes, toys and household objects, with a wing devoted to Captain James Cook. Younger visitors often respond to the quirky curiosities, including a macabre relic known as the Hand of Glory. The museum sits beside the park's playground, so a visit can be combined with time outdoors. It shares its building with Pannett Art Gallery, and a tea room on the site serves light meals and cakes. Suits a rainy afternoon or a slower family day in Whitby.
