Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

Knaresborough Castle sits on a cliff above the River Nidd and is run by North Yorkshire Council as a castle and courthouse museum. Families can climb the historic keep and explore the medieval ruins, with views over the river and the viaduct. The Courthouse Museum holds displays on the castle's royal history and local life, and a Tudor courtroom and a secret tunnel add something to look for. A children's activity room has crafting, building bricks and a play kitchen, and the grounds have outdoor games such as putting and crown green bowls. The site has steep ground and steps, so it suits children who can manage a climb, and the museum is best combined with a walk around the town. It is open seasonally, so check ahead before a visit.

Museum and keep open seasonally; castle grounds open all year.
