The museum has no car park. The nearest public car park is Market Square, with two hours free; free parking at Navigation Wharf at weekends. Malton railway and bus stations are about five minutes' walk.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Malton Museum is a small, volunteer-run archaeology and local history museum in the centre of the market town. Its core collection comes from excavations at the Roman fort at Malton, and the displays also cover the town's story through the ages, including material from the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy. Families will find hands-on interactives, dressing-up costumes, videos and oral histories, and a family trail to follow around the two exhibition rooms. Everything sits on one level and a visit takes around an hour. It is an easy add-on to a day in the Yorkshire Food Capital or a trip to the coast. Seasonal lectures, guided tours and an annual Roman Festival run alongside the permanent displays.
Seasonal opening 4 April to 31 October 2026 per the Visit Us page; monthly guided tours in spring, summer and autumn, and a Friends lecture series in winter and spring.
