Plumpton Rocks is a historic landscape garden set in about 30 acres of parkland, built around a man-made lake at the foot of weathered gritstone outcrops. Families come to scramble among the rock formations, which have evocative names such as Lion's Den and Lover's Leap, and to follow lakeside and woodland paths that are at their best in spring when the bluebells and rhododendrons are out. Children enjoy exploring the rocks and caves, and there is space to spread out a picnic. The site is quiet and informal rather than a managed attraction, so it suits children who like to wander and look for things. The paths are uneven and steep in places, so it is better suited to sturdy walkers than to pushchairs or wheelchairs. Dogs are welcome on leads.
Seasonal: open from Easter weekend to the first weekend of October, plus bank holidays and summer holiday Fridays and Mondays.
