The Coldstones Cut is a large public artwork by the sculptor Andrew Sabin, built from stone into the side of a working quarry high on the moors above Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales. Visitors can walk in between tall stone walls along narrow streets and alleyways, then climb spiral paths up to viewing platforms that look out over the valley and the quarry workings. It suits families who enjoy a walk with a bit of a scramble and a big view, and older children often enjoy exploring the maze-like passages. The site is open all year and entry is free, with a free car park at the base and a short uphill footpath to reach the sculpture. There are no toilets or cafe on site, so families should bring supplies, warm clothing and sturdy footwear, as the hilltop can be exposed and weather changes quickly.
