Breezy Knees Gardens

Breezy Knees is a large privately run garden set across roughly twenty acres on the eastern outskirts of York. It is made up of many separate garden rooms, so a family can wander from one to the next: herbaceous borders, fountains and ponds, a rose garden, a rock garden, a cottage garden, annual meadows and a lake with an arboretum. The displays change through the season, with irises and peonies in late spring, colourful borders through mid-summer and late blooms in the September Garden. Paths in the main areas are mostly firm surfaced, although some outlying areas are grass and the rock and cottage gardens have softer paths. There is a café beside the entrance, a plant nursery, and a picnic area near the car park. The site publishes a Kids' Trail that children can follow around the gardens, which suits older children who enjoy looking for things and younger ones who like open space to run in. Dogs are not admitted except guide dogs.
