A hillside garden in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, laid out from the 1920s around a Grade II* listed hall that is now a retreat house and not open to visitors. Families can wander formal terraces, a rock garden with pools, an orchard, a rose garden and a camellia walk, with woodland trails running through the shelter belt. The gardens are on a slope, so pushchairs and young walkers will find some climbing, but the paths are described as well maintained and there are plenty of benches and views over the valley. A tearoom in the grounds serves light lunches and cakes, with seating both indoors and out. Dogs on leads are welcome. It suits a slow, outdoorsy afternoon rather than a busy attraction, and children under 12 go in free. Some areas can be quieter, so it works well for nature-minded families and anyone who likes exploring.

Seasonal: open April to October. Closed for the winter period, reopening stated as 1 April 2027.
