The Tomintoul & Glenlivet Discovery Centre sits in the square of Scotland's highest village and works as both a visitor information point and a small local museum. Its main displays recreate a crofter's kitchen and a village blacksmith's workshop, with sounds and smells meant to show what rural working life was like. There is a heritage exhibition with a virtual reality exhibit that focuses on the whisky and history of the area, plus displays on local wildlife and the story of the Tomintoul Coat. A digital archive lets visitors browse historic records and oral history. Children are catered for with activities in the exhibition, and the centre is a convenient first stop for families exploring the Cairngorms National Park, Speyside and the Glenlivet area. The centre is owned and run by a community development trust, and it also has a small shop with souvenirs and local crafts. Opening is seasonal, so families should check ahead before travelling.
