Levens Hall & Gardens

Levens Hall is a historic Elizabethan manor house built around a medieval pele tower, sitting at the southern gateway to the Lake District National Park. The main draw for families is the world-famous topiary garden, laid out from 1694, where more than a hundred clipped shapes, some over nine metres high, make a striking outdoor world to wander through. Children can follow quiz trails through the rooms, hunt for the mice and birds hidden in the house, and dress up in Elizabethan costume. Outside, a playground with climbing equipment and slides is aimed at under-12s, and the gravel and grass paths suit buggies and young walkers. Levens Kitchen serves a children's half-portion menu with high chairs, and there are picnic benches around the grounds.
