Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry Museum

The Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry Museum occupies the base of the old fortified tower at Dalemain, a historic mansion and garden on the edge of the Lake District. Its displays hold mementoes and relics of the local cavalry regiment and of the two volunteer forces that came before it, and trace the regiment's history with particular attention to the Boer War and its service in the Great War. Visitors reach it as part of a guided tour of the mansion, which takes in the medieval tower and the house's 18th-century rooms. Families with older children interested in local history or military life will find it a short, focused stop, and the wider estate offers gardens and parkland to explore afterwards. The museum is run by the Army Museums Ogilby Trust network and is open only seasonally.
