A small permanent museum run by the Lake District Holocaust Project, housed on the upper level of Windermere Library. It tells the story of the child survivors of the Nazi camps who were sent to the Lake District in 1945 to recover and rebuild their lives. Displays include artefacts and images from their stay in Windermere, and an award-winning video presentation runs within the main exhibition. The exhibition is self-guided, with staff present at some times to talk through the displays. Because it deals with the Holocaust, it suits older children and teenagers, and it is often visited by schools and families interested in local history. Donations to the charity are welcomed, and a lift serves the upper floor. Visitors can combine a trip here with a walk around the centre of Windermere.
