The Swanage Railway is a heritage line that runs through the Isle of Purbeck between the seaside town of Swanage and Norden, with request stops along the way. Steam trains are the main draw, with vintage diesel services also running, and children often enjoy the sound and smell of a real steam locomotive as the train climbs through the countryside. The most popular stop for families is Corfe Castle, where the ruins of the castle can be seen from the platform and the village is a short walk away. Swanage has a sandy beach at the end of the line, so a trip can combine a railway ride with time on the sand. The railway also runs themed events through the year, including galas and seasonal trains, and there is a museum at Corfe Castle station. Most of the line is run by volunteers, and the timetable is seasonal, with daily services in the main summer months and more limited running at other times of year.
Daily steam service April to October; most weekends in the rest of the year. Special galas, Halloween, Santa and sunset services run on set dates.
