A compact history museum on the western edge of Tolpuddle village, housed in the former library of the Memorial Cottages built in 1934. Its displays follow the story of the six farm labourers whose arrest, trial and transportation helped shape modern trade unionism. Interactive touch screens and reconstructed newspaper pages make the story easier for children to follow, and the museum runs a schools programme. Families often combine a visit with the village trail, the martyrs' sculpture outside, and the historic tree. The museum is quick to see, so it suits a short stop on a day out in west Dorset, and it pairs well with a trip to Dorchester, where the old Shire Hall courtroom is also open to visitors. Check the seasonal hours before travelling, as the museum closes for part of the winter and at Christmas.

Summer and winter hours differ; see hoursNote. Closed on the Festival Sunday in July.
