Sandsfoot Castle is a Henry VIII coastal fort on the cliffs south-west of Weymouth town centre, reached along the Rodwell Trail, a path that follows an old railway line. The gardens around the ruin are open to visitors, with flower beds, a pond and views across Portland Harbour and towards Chesil Beach. A café on site serves the gardens, and a sandy cove lies close by for a paddle or a beach picnic. The castle ruin itself has been closed to visitors since structural cracks were found, so families should expect to explore the grounds from outside rather than walk the castle interior. Information boards tell the story of the fort, and the area suits a relaxed walk, a picnic or a bike ride with younger children.
