Lyme Regis Museum sits on the site of Mary Anning's former home on the Jurassic Coast, and it is a good first stop for fossil-minded families. The galleries show fossils from the surrounding cliffs, the geology of the coast, and the maritime and town history of Lyme Regis. Children can work through the museum's child-friendly trails, and there are seasonal family activities and temporary exhibitions. Literary links to Jane Austen and John Fowles are also on display. The museum runs guided fossil walks on the shore, which pair well with a visit inside. The building is a Grade II listed building, so some upper rooms are reached by stairs only. The shop sells fossil and dinosaur gifts to take home. Families with pushchairs are welcome, and assistance dogs are admitted.
