What’s there
- Dogs welcome
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
A small museum tucked inside the Square & Compass, a historic stone pub in the Purbeck village of Worth Matravers. The display brings together decades of local collecting: fossils from Purbeck, Portland and Kimmeridge Clay rocks along the Jurassic Coast, including larger marine reptiles such as ichthyosaur and pliosaur examples, alongside Mesolithic flint tools, Roman metalwork, coins, clay pipes and items from 18th-century shipwrecks. Families walking the coastal paths can stop by to look at the cases and hear about what has turned up in the surrounding fields and cliffs. Children and dogs are welcome at the pub. It suits curious older children and adults who enjoy geology, archaeology and local history, and it makes a quiet, low-key addition to a day on the Purbeck coast.
