Sherborne Museum sits in the old almonry beside Sherborne Abbey, a small independent museum run by volunteers. Its collections cover the town's fossils and geology, Roman and medieval archaeology, a model of the original Norman castle, a Victorian doll's house, agricultural bygones and items from the local silk, glove and button industries. A digital display lets visitors page through the Sherborne Missal, a medieval manuscript, and there are botanical watercolours and a medieval wall painting to find. Temporary exhibitions and family-friendly events run through the year, and visitors have mentioned children enjoying the fossils and the dolls' house. The museum is compact, so a visit suits an hour or so, and the shop has children's games and activities at modest prices. Admission is free, with donations welcomed.
