Museum of East Dorset

The Museum of East Dorset occupies a Grade II* listed house in the centre of Wimborne Minster, with a garden running back to the mill stream. Its galleries cover the social history and archaeology of the surrounding area, from Roman wall paintings and archaeological finds to a preserved historic kitchen. The museum describes itself as welcoming visitors of all ages and families, and it runs hands-on and interactive exhibits, seasonal trails and free craft activities for children. The garden is open to the public and gives younger visitors space to explore between galleries. There is a tea room overlooking the garden, a gift shop and a second-hand bookshop. Families can also book on-site school sessions and early years activities, and a programme of events runs through the year, including winter evenings in the garden.
