A small, fully accredited local history museum run by Yate Town Council with volunteers. The galleries are in a purpose-built building beside St Mary's Church and the White Lion pub, and they tell the story of Yate from Roman and Saxon times through to its wartime bombing and its growth into a modern town. Exhibitions change regularly, so there is usually something new to look at on each visit, and recent displays have covered subjects such as local football history and the anti-slavery movement. The centre also runs school-holiday arts and craft sessions, including a drop-in "Stay & Play" day in the October half term, and a lecture series for adults. It suits families with older children who enjoy looking at old photographs, objects and maps, and younger visitors can take part in the hands-on holiday activities. The visit is indoors and short, so it works well as a rainy-day stop or as a quiet addition to a day in town.
