A small, friendly community museum in the market town of Thornbury, telling the story of the town and the lower Severn Vale through archaeology, domestic life, trades and local people. Its layout is compact, so younger visitors do not have to walk far between displays. The museum runs a hunt-the-mice game, where children look for knitted mice hidden among the display cases and report back at the front desk to choose one to take home. The Roman Coin Hoard room has an activity box with coin rubbings, colouring, pottery fragments to sort and mosaics to make. Temporary exhibitions change through the year, and the small shop sells local history books and inexpensive gifts for children. The town's heritage trail starts nearby for families who want a walk afterwards. Entry is free, and the museum is run largely by volunteers.
