A four-storey Regency terrace house in Pittville, Cheltenham, kept as a period home and museum. Visitors move through the rooms at their own pace with a printed guidebook, following the story of the house and its residents from the 1870s onwards. The rooms include a working Victorian kitchen and scullery, a bedroom, a nursery and a drawing room, and the composer's piano, on which he wrote The Planets, is on show in his music room. A short introductory film sets the scene, and there are audio and video displays for those interested in Holst's music. Children are admitted free and the museum runs a family trail with a dog mascot to follow around the house, which makes it an easy hour or so out for a mixed-age group. The house has stairs over several floors and no lift, so it suits visitors who are comfortable with stairs.
