The Cave is a hands-on museum of video gaming history, covering hardware, software and related ephemera from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Most of the consoles, home computers, table-top electronic games and the handful of arcade cabinets are set up to be played, so families can try machines their parents grew up with alongside ones they have never seen before. Exhibits range from popular British home micros to rarer machines from Japan, and a recreated high street software shop adds a nostalgic touch. There is also a library of gaming magazines and books to browse. A living exhibit called The Dev Den shows games development and music technology, with a developer creating new games for vintage computers. The museum hosts talks and demonstrations by games industry figures, and it is aimed at older children and teens as well as adults who want to revisit their childhood.
