Wellington Aviation Museum

A compact museum housed in part of an old Victorian school building in Moreton-in-Marsh. Its collection grew from one former RAF serviceman's private collection and centres on the airfield that trained Bomber Command aircrews during the Second World War, including the Vickers Wellington bomber. Visitors find RAF memorabilia, aviation art, photographs, books and personal items donated by families of people who were stationed at the base. Displays also cover how the war touched a small market town, from local prisoner of war camps to troops who gathered nearby before D-Day. Because it is a single modest space, a visit suits an hour or so, and it is well suited to older children with an interest in planes, history or engineering. The volunteers are happy to answer questions and share stories, which brings the displays to life. Vintage cars sometimes gather outside, and the town's High Street with its tea rooms is a short walk away.
