Watchet Market House Museum occupies the ground floor of the Market House on the Esplanade by Watchet harbour. It is a compact local museum with a strong focus on fossils from the nearby Jurassic coast, including an ichthyosaur and a large ammonite displayed in the window and inside. Other displays cover the port's maritime history, the West Somerset Mineral Railway, Saxon and Viking finds and a pictorial timeline of the town. Visits tend to be short, so it works well as a rainy-afternoon stop or a break between the harbour and the beach. Admission is free, with donations welcome. Families can combine it with a walk round the historic building and the nearby fossil beach.
