Eastbury Manor House is a 16th-century brick house on Eastbury Square in Barking, owned by the National Trust and run day to day by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Visitors can tour rooms with original features such as a spiral oak staircase in the turret, exposed attic timbers and a rare surviving early 17th-century painted chamber. Families can ask at reception for a free trail, either an I-Spy or a House Detective sheet, to turn the visit into a search through the rooms. Outside there is an original walled garden, a kitchen and herb garden, and large front lawns. Temporary exhibitions show different stories from the house's history, and a café is on site. The house is compact, so it suits curious older children and adults who enjoy history rather than large rides or play areas.
